Lok Sabha elections 2024: Polling to be held in Tamil Nadu on April 19. New Delhi: The Election Commission of India today (March 16) announced the schedule for the much-awaited Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Accordingly, Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases starting from April 19 to June 1. Polling will be held in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in a single phase on April 19. Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections across the country will take place on June 4.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the Lok Sabha election schedule at a press conference at Vinhyan Bhawan in capital Delhi. He was accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhveer Singh Sandhu. As the election date for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies in 28 states and 8 union territories across the country was announced, the rules of conduct of elections came into effect immediately.

Elections in 7 Phases: Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases from April 19 to June 1. Polling will be held in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in a single phase on April 19. Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections across the country will take place on June 4. The Election Commission has announced that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in phases. In Tamil Nadu, it will be held in one phase on April 19. All political parties in Tamil Nadu have already demanded a single phase election, but elections are being held in a single phase in Tamil Nadu.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said, "This is the most important press conference of the year. All preparations for the Lok Sabha elections are ready. We are fully prepared to conduct the Lok Sabha elections. Election Commission's aim is to conduct the election like a festival. Join us as voters in the election festival.

96.8 crore voters: 96.8 crore voters across the country are eligible to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Of these, 49.7 crore are males and 47.1 crore are females. 88.4 lakh persons with disabilities. 48 thousand people are transgender. Out of total voters, 1.82 crore are first-time voters. There are more than 82 lakh voters above the age of 85 years. There are 2.18 lakh voters above 100 years of age.

10.5 lakh polling booths: 10.5 lakh polling booths will be set up for voters to cast their votes. All arrangements have been made to ensure that polling is conducted peacefully without any violence. The application is introduced for voters to know the details of the candidates.

Security Arrangements: I assure you that the election will be conducted with the highest standards. Adequate measures will be taken to control fake news during election time. In terms of security arrangements, drone surveillance will be carried out along state borders and some international borders. Temporary checkpoints will be set up. Helicopters and even private planes will be tested intensively.

Adequate measures will be taken to prevent man power, money power, rumours, rule violations in elections. Control centers will be set up in each district to operate 24*7 hours. Strict measures will be taken if money, goods or alcohol are given for votes. The Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Department will continue to monitor the money transactions. Banks are prohibited from carrying cash in their vehicles after 6 pm. Digital money transactions will also be closely monitored. Strict action will be taken against anti-social elements who disturb the peace of the election.

Advice to political parties: Political parties should campaign responsibly. Social media campaigns should also be carried out carefully. Star speakers should campaign with dignity. Caste, religion or personal criticism should not be engaged in propaganda. Political parties should not use minors and differently-abled people in election campaigns. People's Assembly elections will be conducted fairly and honestly. 1.5 crore people are involved in the Lok Sabha election process. 2100 election observers are appointed across the country,” he said.
