Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency has always had a special character. In the last 1977 assembly elections, MGR contested from Aruppukkottai constituency. It is noteworthy that Karmaveerar Kamaraj contested and won from the Chatur constituency and became the Chief Minister.

Chatur Ramachandran, who won the Aruppukkottai assembly seat, is the revenue minister, and although Tiruchuzhi constituency in Virudhunagar district is part of the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency, Thangam, the DMK secretary of Virudhunagar East district, who won in this constituency, is responsible for the state finance minister.
Because it is Kamaraj's birthplace, the Congress has continuously contested this constituency and won many times. Ramamurthy (SWA) in Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency 1967, Jayalakshmi (Congress) in 1971, 1980, 1980, 1984, Kalimuthu (AIADMK) in 1989, Govindarajulu (AIADMK) in 1996, 1996 , Vaiko (MDMK) in 1999, Chippiparai Ravichandran (MDMK) in 2004, Manickam Tagore (Congress) in 2009, T. Radhakrishnan (ADMK) in 2014, Manickam Tagore (Congress) in 2019.
Currently, the Congress party in the DMK alliance has been allotted the Virudhunagar constituency. There is a possibility that Manikam Thakur MP will contest again as a candidate this time as well. In addition to this, the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency has become a star constituency this time as film actress Radhika is contesting as a BJP candidate in Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency and Vijaya Prabhakaran, son of film actor and DMDK founder Vijayakanth, is contesting as a candidate in the AIADMK alliance.
